SSH into the shell. Tcl and OpenSSL are already there. Current Eggdrop is 1.9 / 1.10 from geteggdrop.com. This is the long form of the short version.
1. Fetch source
cd ~
wget https://geteggdrop.com -O eggdrop-latest.tar.gz
tar zxvf eggdrop-latest.tar.gz
cd eggdrop-1.*
If tar complains, try gunzip then tar xvf.
2. Configure and compile
./configure
make config
make
make install DEST=~/botdir
make config builds the usual modules. make iconfig if you want to pick. make install DEST= is required — the compile dir is not a runnable bot.
If ~ does not expand under make, use the full path (pwd from ~).
3. Config
cd ~/botdir
cp eggdrop.conf botnick.conf
Edit botnick.conf. Full notes: how to configure. Minimum: nick, owner, ident, vhost/IP, listen, servers, remove die.
4. First start
./eggdrop -m botnick.conf
-m creates the userfile. First time only. The process daemonizes. After that: ./eggdrop botnick.conf.
Debug (foreground; quitting kills the bot):
./eggdrop -nt botnick.conf
Not the normal run mode.
5. Persist
./scripts/autobotchk botnick.conf
Crontab, not screen. Screen/tmux are for irssi/weechat.
You can delete the eggdrop-1.* source tree after a successful install. Keep ~/botdir.
AUP: max 2 IRC connections per shell to a given network. Next: first start, partyline.
